Concert Etiquette

My husband, daughter and I went to see Seven Nations perform with the Jacksonville Symphony Orchestra last night and were irritated with the behavior of the audience. The major complaint was the chit chat the audience deemed necessary. Of course, there were the other usual annoyances such as people arriving late or leaving early. And one other issue is that people really don't know when it is appropriate to applaud. We attend concerts and music festivals frequently and as a general rule the audiences typically suck. So here are ten simple concert/festival etiquette rules:

1. STFU!
2. Turn off your cell phone.
3. Arrive a bit early.
4. Leave at the end of the performance.
5. Applaud when the conductor turns around.
6. If a conductor is not present applaud when the music has ended.
7. If you are smoking a joint share it with your neighbor.
8. Don’t vomit or spell beer on the person sitting near you.
9. Don’t take a bath in perfume.
10. HAVE FUN!
