Travels in France

We returned from France late last Tuesday evening and had a great trip without any travel delays. We of course didn't cover all that was on our list but we stayed very busy sightseeing. Staying at the gite for a week was well worth it. I believe it kept us from over doing it. I have posted a couple of photos of the gite as it was a very nice place. It is located about 1 or 2 kilometers from the village/small town called le Bugue. I really enjoyed the local food shopping and cooking while at the gite. One night I made a fancy dinner of coq au vin and then the next day while shopping saw that I could have bought it in the can. lol. We had some really delicious restaurant meals as you would expect in a culinary country. We celebrated our anniversary on October 21 (31 years). You can see Mr. Red Molly opening a bottle of champagne in another photo below.

One of the highlights of the trip was seeing the 15,000 year old cave drawings and etchings. The cave drawings we saw were a reproduction but the cave etchings were the actual original drawings seen on a tour led by an English speaking guide. It was just Mr. Red Molly, me and the guide which made the tour even better because we could see the etchings without other folks in the way.

We visited several medieval towns and got to visit a couple of market towns. If you ever visit France you must go to some of the towns on their market day. The food is phenomenal!

Bordeaux is a beautiful and easy to walk city. There are many pedestrian streets and a great tram system. Of course Paris it is always worth a visit especially if that is where you are flying in and out of. We enjoyed our three days there. On the walk down the Champs-Élysées we stopped in the Peugeot store to see their latest car models. See photo below of a designers dream car. Also in Paris we ate at le Train Bleu restaurant at the Gare de Lyon. It was another culinary delight and without a doubt the fanciest restaurant I have ever dined. There is a scene in Mr. Bean's Holiday of the restaurant. (Yeah, we watch silly movies sometimes.)

All in all the trip was very nice and refreshing. We did miss the twenty-agers as they added an element of excitement and entertainment last year when they traveled with us but we managed without them and continued with the drinking of great cheap wine theme; many bottles which were purchased at the LeaderPrice.
