Color Coding Terror
In order for Mr. Bush to look like he is actually doing something to defend our country from evil doers he has moved the terror warning up to orange on the nations train and subway systems. Changing the color of our warning system is just a quick and dirty fix. Since 9/11 the President should have been using our resources to provide proper security at all times instead of fighting the wrong war. Changing the warning system for a few days, or week or two is not making this country safe.
Here's some quoted words from William Rivers Pitt (hope you can read the whole article), "...One thing is certain. The perpetrators of this bombing bear the responsibility for this wretched act, and bear the responsibility for the gross miscalculation that many have made in the past: A democratic society is weak and decadent, and can be easily pushed. Ask Hitler if that is true. A democratic society, once enraged, is the strongest force on Earth, and those responsible for this are going to find that out to their woe.
The other certainty: Mr. Bush and Mr. Blair bear the responsibility for this wretched act, as well. They decided in April of 2002 to start a war based on false pretenses, to fix the intelligence and facts around the policy, and now the whirlwind has come to be reaped. The blood that runs in the streets of London, and in the streets of Baghdad, Fallujah, Tikrit and Mosul, is on their hands."
And here's more quoted words from Gandi's post today over at Bush Out(by Gandhi) (hope you get a change to read it as well) "...Before you start shouting "We will never negotiate with terrorists!", consider this: the US has already admitted that previous US administrations made mistakes in their dealings with dictators like Saddam. So now it's time to look at the current administration's many, many mistakes. Most specifically:
- the illegal invasion of Iraq, based on proven lies, still with no declared intention of ever fully withdrawing US forces or dismantling US bases;
- double standards in defining a totally pro-Western version of "Democracy",
- woefully complicit support for Israel's rabid dog policies in the Middle East.
Until and unless our governments get serious about addressing these failures, I cannot see an end to atrocities such as those committed in London today. And the only way our governments will ever acknowledge these failings, or do anything to change these atrocious policies, is if we, the people, pressure them to do so.
In other words, it's up to you and me. Let's save the world, together."
My son leaves on Sunday for Barcelona and I have to wonder how safe is it for him to travel but on the other hand you can't live your life in fear.
